On the 15th of December 2021 (exactly eleven days ago), Ghana gained a new skatepark which is said to be located in the heart of Accra. This skatepark named, Freedom Skatepark had been in works for nearly a year and it was brought to existence by a collective of brands and organisations. Surf Ghana, a sports NGO and collective led by Sandy Alibo together with Ghana’s most prominent skate crew, Skate Nation GH were the ones who initiated the campaign of fundings for the skatepark on social media.
“The Surf Ghana Collective made the most use of their online presence to solicit funds to give life to The Freedom Skatepark.”

Off-white’s Virgil Abloh and Amsterdam based fashion brand Daily Paper are the two main brands that came forward to support this initiative. Freedom Skatepark is said to be a beautiful skatepark spanning 500 m2 in the heart of Accra, located at Shiashie in the East Legon vicinity. This skatepark intends to soon become a home for the youth to truly and freely express themselves.
Vans is another brand working with The Surf Ghana Collective on this Freedom Skatepark. Vans is partnering with the sports NGO to ensure skateboarding and surfing are as accessible as possible for the local community.
“The main priority is to offer a platform to groom and support youth in the areas of art and sport entrepreneurship.”
