Sneaker collecting is the acquisition and trading of sneakers as a hobby. It is often manifested by the use and collection of shoes made for particular sports, particularly basketball and skateboarding. A person involved in sneaker collecting is sometimes called a sneakerhead. So, Culture club, made it a quest to have a mini interview with a South African sneaker collector and a YouTube sneaker reviewer, known as Confitsss.
1. Who is Confitsss and where did he grow up ?
I’m confitsss, I’m 22 years old. I was born in Manila, in the Philippines, and then moved to South Africa in 2002.
2. When did you fall in love with the sneaker game, and when did you realize that you actually love dressing up?
Being from the Philippines, my love for sneakers has always been there since the start but I couldn’t really afford sneakers until 2014 as I have to hustle & grind it out to cop kicks and even then I couldn’t even afford Mainstream sneaker like Jordan’s and Yeezy’s until 2017. I realized that I love dressing up since 2012 and I’ve been through many clothing and styling trends ever since. But I finally found my true style in 2018 and stuck with it ever since.
3. Who are your inspirations?
My inspiration for kicks and styles has to be Del.ten, asapr1cky, sante and kickstq from Instagram, and also celebrities like Travis Scott, Kanye West, and Tyler the creator.

4. What’s your take on South African sneaker culture right now ?
South African sneaker culture, at the moment, is quite hype orientated, in my opinion. People aren’t buying what they truly like and only copping stuff that is new or very popular right now. But I respect that, there’s nothing wrong with new things. But saving up and chasing after kicks from the past years that you fall head over heels for is just an amazing feeling, and the rush you get when you finally acquire the pair is priceless.
5. Besides yourself, who is your favorite sneaker head or collector and why ?
I would say del.ten, kickstq, sante, and vivianfrank, they’re all on Instagram.
6. What’s the most expensive sneaker in your wardrobe?
Travis Scott Air Jordan 4 “Cactus jack“
7. What are your 3 favorite sneakers of all time ?
Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red October“, KAWS Air Jordan 4 and Shattered backboard 1.0
8. What are your most favorite, up and coming, South African local brands ?
Sol-sol, goodgoodgood, and cuffedboyzclub x Riyaadh Ismail.
9. What’s your take on the Jordan 1 reign since the 1980s till this day ?
The air Jordan 1 is our modern day converse. It’s one of the most timeless sneakers to ever release and I don’t see the hype, or love for the silhouette, dying any time soon. Although Jordan brand is currently ‘milking’ its consumer with all the different random colorways, it’s still one of the best sneaker silhouette that looks good with no effort put into your outfits.

10. What would you want people to know you for besides fashion and kicks ?
I want people to know me for being a hard worker, empa. Everything you see on my page is made possible through my honest hard work and dedication to grinding, hustling, and staying true the community and South African society. I try my best to remain humble, kind, friendly, helpful, empathetic, and grateful all time, and so far I have.
Bonus question: What’s your 2020 motto ?
My motto for 2020 is “live in the now.” You can’t change the past no matter how much you’d like to. You can’t predict or plan your future either. Live like everyday is your last. Pray like it’s your day. Be kind to your family and friends as if it’s your last day. Make every second count because life is short, and we’re not guaranteed the next day.
