Darkie Fiction is one of our favorite South African musical duo. When they announced that they will be releasing a new EP titled “Endaweni” we were all excited. The EP was released on the 10th of April. We all know Darkie Fiction for their kwaito-alternative sounds with a hint of Xhosa rap and that’s what we also got on this newly released EP, but with more different Fiction sounds.

Their first project “Sobabini: A Mzantsi Evolution” EP is a timeless body of work with bops to dance to such as “Gumbafaya” & “Fiction sound” and sing-alongs that include “My Ntliziyo“, which made me wonder what kind of songs and sounds “Endaweni” EP will have.

Endaweni has seven songs, the first one on the EP is “Iz’thunzela” a mellow, slow-beat song, we got to hear the richness of Kattdaddy’s raps with Yoza’s vocals perfectly balancing it out. Darkie Fiction makes feel good music with positivity messages and we got that from “Iz’thunzela” and “ULife.” One thing that affirmed me that Darkie Fiction is here to stay and that their sound, the Fiction sound is captivating, authentic and distinctive is when Yoza voiced that, “MTV is telling them they need to be commercial” on Gumbafaya, but not conforming to that. The South African music industry doesn’t support alternative artists as much as they need to, because their sounds aren’t conventional enough for them and that’s a bummer.

There’s a song titled “Abazali Bam” on the EP and it was debuted a while ago. The song has a upbeat sound and it talks about both their parents, being loving and supportive towards their dreams. That’s one of many Darkie Fiction songs that is going to age well. I urge you to download and stream Endaweni because it is a chef d’oeuvre.
